Course Description

Elementary Robotics (K5 - 5th grade)

Build, code & play with Robots! This class starts with 8-10 weeks of robotics where we'll lead students through building with gears, axles, dc motors, switches, IR sensors, LEDs, servo motors and the Arduino mainboard. Every few weeks, we'll build a different robot and use those robots in an activity or competition. Examples include the Knight Robot for battle bots, Flag Football bot, Soccer Bot and Wand Following Bot. As students become adept at building robots, we'll then introduce coding concepts. Students will learn how to use loops, wait statements, IF-THEN-ELSE statements and more to control their robots. Each coding class will have a challenge that will teach our young engineers how to use Scratch coding to make their robots complete a task autonomously.

Middle School Robotics (6th - 8th):  (5th graders can join this class)

High School Robotics (9th - 12th grade) - (8th graders can register)

The high school robotics class will cover the following:
 - Python (a programming language)
 - Basic electronics
 - Basic electricity
 - Using all of the above, will begin programming sensors, motors, displays, speakers (i.e. - robotics)

The following equipment is required for the class:
 - A laptop running Windows 10, equipped with Wi-Fi, and one open USB port
 - Raspberry Pi 4 (CanaKit from Amazon recommended) - To order, click on the word "Canakit" (in black ink) and it will take you to      the Amazon website.
 - Freenove Ultrasonic Starter Kit - To order, click on the words "Freenove Ultrasound Starter Kit" (in black ink) and it will take you      to the Amazon website.
 - One 4GB (or larger) mini SD card
 - Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner - 3rd Edition - ISBN: 9781435455009 (fall semester book) - To order, click on the         words "Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner" (in black ink) and it will take you to the Amazon website.

Pre-requisites:
 - Some pre-algebra and strong familiarity with math
 - The Python Computer Programming course offered in the fall or an equivalent course.

The fall semester will cover Python programming and the gambit of concepts from programming theory to object oriented programming. The spring semester will introduce the Raspberry Pi 4 and utilizing the tools learned from last semester will begin to use the various hardware to begin designing systems that are invaluable for use in the real world.

*Here at MHA, we want all our students to have a pleasant and enjoyable learning experience so please feel free to come to us with any questions and/or concerns.*
