Course Description

Elementary Art (K5 - 4th grade)

This course will give students the opportunity to learn technique while creating their own individual styles. Students will also explore color, line, value, and much more and have the opportunity to draw from life, as much as possible, while improving on their learned skills by observing the world around them. After all, we can think of our beautiful world as one big canvas created and painted by the magnificent hands of God, Our Master Artist. Students are encouraged to take notes in class and ask questions both during class time and during the week via phone, email, or by designated personal sessions. There will be homework each week to both introduce new material that will be discussed in class the following week and also to review what was learned in class that week. Homework will be graded for both completion and accuracy. Students will also be graded on oral/written tests and potential projects. Related field trips are being considered.

Middle School Art (5th - 8th grade)

This course will expand on art technique while applying the information to a wide variety of media and projects. Students will cover many styles of art throughout the year. Color media will be used to explore line, tone, spatial relationships and perspectives, shapes, lighting, and more. Creativity will be encouraged and an emphasis in portfolio building will be introduced. This class is aimed to prepare students for high school art while giving room to grow in their own styles. Students are encouraged to take notes in class and ask questions both during class time and during the week via phone, email, or by designated personal sessions. There will be homework each week to both introduce new material that will be discussed in class the following week and also to review what was learned in class that week. Homework will be graded for both completion and accuracy. Students will also be graded on tests and potential projects. Related field trips are being considered.

High School Art Appreciation (9th - 12th grade)

This course will focus on art history lessons combined with a studio art component. Students will have the opportunity to study and research a variety of famous painters from history while learning how to emulate these styles from the past. This class will properly assist students in performing master studies building on technique and various media will be utilized to help us accomplish this goal, including digital art media. The digital art portions of this class are optional, and students who opt out of the digital art projects will be assigned other art media to complete their project. Students will be encouraged to build on their creativity while stocking quality portfolio pieces. Portfolio guidance for art school bound high school students will be offered as well. Students are encouraged to take notes in class and ask questions both during class time and during the week via phone, email, or by designated personal sessions. There will be homework each week to both introduce new material that will be discussed in class the following week and also to review what was learned in class that week.
